Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Melt butter in a saucepan. Whisk in flour, then milk until smooth.
- Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly. Cook until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in salt, pepper, garlic powder, and 1 1/2 cups of cheddar cheese until melted.
- Layer half of the potatoes in the dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
- Top with the remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.
- Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour.
- Remove foil and sprinkle with remaining cheddar cheese and turkey bacon.
- Bake uncovered for 15-20 minutes, until potatoes are tender and cheese is melted.
- Garnish with green onions before serving.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use a blend of cheddar and Gruyere cheese.
