  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

Method
 

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the Sauce: Sauté the chopped onion in melted butter until translucent (about 3-4 minutes).
  3. Make the Roux: Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk in the heavy cream and milk. Add garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook until thickened (5-7 minutes).
  4. Layer Ingredients: Layer half of the potatoes, ham, sauce, and cheese. Repeat the layers.
  5. Bake: Cover and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Let it sit for 10 minutes. Garnish with parsley before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a blend of Gruyere and cheddar cheese.
