Base
  • 1 lb ground beef for the base layer
  • 4 large potatoes thinly sliced
Sauce
  • 10.75 oz condensed cream of mushroom soup for binding the casserole
  • 0.5 cup milk to thin the soup
Topping
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese for topping
Seasoning
  • salt and pepper to taste, for seasoning

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook ground beef in a skillet until browned, drain grease, and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Slice potatoes and arrange a layer in a greased baking dish.
  4. Spread cooked beef over potatoes. Mix soup and milk, then pour over beef.
  5. Bake for 1 hour, then add cheese and bake for 15 minutes until melted.
  6. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a combination of cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese.
