Method
- Pre-heat oven to 350F and brush butter in a casserole pan.
- Prepare the white sauce: Melt butter, add flour, garlic, spices, milk, and cheeses. Stir until melted. Adjust seasoning.
- Caramelize thinly sliced onion in olive oil until soft and golden.
- Wash and thinly slice the potatoes into 3mm thick slices.
- Assemble: Add sauce to the bottom, layer potatoes with sauce, add caramelized onions, and cover with remaining sauce.
- Bake until potatoes are tender (45-60 minutes). Check with a fork.
- Sprinkle cheese on top and broil for 3-5 minutes until melted.
- Garnish with chopped parsley.
- Serve and enjoy!
Notes
For a richer flavor, use a combination of Gruyere and Parmesan cheese in the sauce.
