Method
- Slice potatoes and chop ham. Season with salt and pepper.
- Melt butter, whisk in flour, then cheese. Gradually add milk and bring to a boil. Season and add herbs. Cook 1-2 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375F/ 190C.
- Layer half the potato/ham mix in a greased dish, top with half the sauce. Repeat layers.
- Cover with foil and bake for 70 minutes, until potatoes are tender.
- Remove foil, sprinkle cheese and herbs, bake uncovered for 10-15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use heavy cream instead of milk.
