Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 6 medium potatoes peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups cooked turkey ham cubed
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese optional

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in flour, then gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Simmer, stirring constantly.
  3. Stir in salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook until sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  4. Layer half of the potatoes, then half of the turkey ham in the baking dish. Pour half of the sauce over.
  5. Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, turkey ham, and sauce.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove foil and sprinkle with cheddar cheese (if using).
  7. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and cheese is melted.
  8. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use heavy cream instead of milk.
