  • 2.5 lb Potatoes
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic granules
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper. to taste
  • 50 g cubed cold butter
  • Fresh thyme to garnish optional
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp flour

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 180C/365F and butter a baking dish.
  2. Make seasoning mix: Combine flour, onion powder, garlic granules, salt, and pepper.
  3. Make milk mixture: Whisk milk and flour until lump-free.
  4. Wash, peel, and thinly slice the potatoes.
  5. Layer potatoes in dish, sprinkle with flour mix and butter cubes. Repeat until ingredients are used. Top with pepper.
  6. Pour milk mixture over the dish.
  7. Bake covered for 30 minutes, then uncovered for 20-30 minutes until tender and browned.
  8. Rest before serving warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a layer of shredded cheese before the final bake.
