Ingredients
  

Cake
  • 1 box Cake mix (vanilla or white)
  • Eggs as required by cake mix
  • Oil as required by cake mix
  • Water (or milk, as required by cake mix)
Frosting & Decorations
  • 2 containers Buttercream frosting (white)
  • Gel food coloring (various colors for meadow flowers and butterflies)
  • Edible butterfly decorations
  • Edible flower decorations
  • Green buttercream frosting (for grass)
  • Sprinkles (optional)
  • Piping bags and tips

Method
 

  1. Prepare cake batter according to cake mix instructions.
  2. Bake cake in a round cake pan. Let cool completely.
  3. Level the cake if necessary.
  4. Frost the entire cake with a thin layer of white buttercream frosting (crumb coat). Chill for 30 minutes.
  5. Apply a thicker layer of white buttercream frosting to the entire cake.
  6. Tint small batches of buttercream frosting with various gel food colors.
  7. Pipe flowers and grass around the base and sides of the cake.
  8. Attach edible butterfly decorations to the cake.
  9. Add sprinkles for extra detail if desired.
  10. Chill the cake for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, use high-quality gel food coloring for vibrant colors.
