  • 2 lbs russet potatoes thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp butter for greasing
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh thyme or rosemary optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Layer potatoes, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cheese between layers.
  3. Mix cream with salt and pepper; pour over potatoes until covered.
  4. Top with more cheese.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Let rest before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a blend of cheeses like Gruyere and Parmesan.
