Method
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Slice potatoes into thin rounds. Set aside.
- Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes.
- Gradually add milk and cream, whisking until smooth. Simmer until slightly thickened.
- Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Reduce heat to low and add cheddar and Gruyère. Stir until melted and smooth.
- Layer half of the potatoes into the dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over them.
- Repeat with remaining potatoes and cheese sauce. Sprinkle Parmesan on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before garnishing with parsley and serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of nutmeg to the cheese sauce.
