  • 2 1/4 cups flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar for creaming
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar for rolling
  • 1/2 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
White Chocolate Chips
  • 3 cups white chocolate chips
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
Decoration
  • red and green candy melts or tinted royal icing optional for decoration

Method
 

  1. Whisk dry ingredients for 20 seconds; set aside.
  2. Cream butter and sugars until fluffy.
  3. Add egg, molasses, and vanilla; mix well.
  4. Gradually add dry mix, chill dough for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), shape cookies, roll in sugar, and bake 8-10 minutes.
  6. Melt white chocolate with shortening, dip cookies, and decorate as desired.

Notes

Chilling the dough helps prevent spreading and enhances flavor.
